Clinical research must follow a set of principles that fall into internationally recognized ethical research guidelines. Amongst the most relevant aspects, it is accepted that the Social and clinical value of all published research should be clear, as well as its Scientific validity, a transparent subject and topic selection free from conflicts of interest. Other international guiding principles include independent reviews, informed consent when required and respect for all potentially enrolled individuals. Additionally, it is also recognized internationally that a favorable risk-benefit ratio of the published research should be demonstrated and its social and clinical value should also be argued.
All studies are designed to answer a specific research question, or the problem tackled by the published article. The answer should be important enough to justify the effort of publishing. In other words, answers to the research question should contribute to promote a better scientific understanding of disease processes, diagnosis or therapeutic or other type of clinical intervention.
